SPORT MASSAGE THERAPY

What is Sport Massage Therapy & What to Expect at Your Sports Massage Therapy Appointment?

Massage Therapy primarily consists of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body – otherwise known as the muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints – for the purpose of optimizing health.

Massage Therapy treatments have a therapeutic effect on the body, amplifying health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Moreover, physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; while physical dysfunction, pain, and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.

Modern massage techniques can be traced back to the 1700s and the development of Swedish massage, which is the first systematic method of therapeutic massage based on physiology. Today’s Massage Therapists use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish and modern Massage Therapy techniques with exercise and other therapies to treat their clients.

Sports Massage at Tx consists of deep tissue manipulations and stretching combined with neural and joint mobilizations. The objective is to effectively treat muscular conditions and athletic injuries, as well as any general biomechanical dysfunctions or anatomical pathologies.

What to expect at your Massage Therapy appointment.

Before a treatment, your Massage Therapist will propose a personalized treatment plan based on an initial assessment and evaluation of your health history. The assessment consists of various tests to determine the condition of your muscles and joints.

Please note, any personal and/or health information you provide to your Massage Therapist is completely confidential and will be safeguarded by the Tx team. Subsequently, your health record cannot be released or transferred without your written consent.

Before any treatment, patients will be given a full disclosure as to what procedures will take place during their appointment. Patients must give their consent before our Massage Therapist begins treatment. Your privacy will always be respected, and you may withdraw your consent for treatment at any time.

Various specialized movements of the hands, forearms and elbows over the skin or clothes make up the Massage Therapy treatment.

The Massage Therapist will work with your level of pain tolerance during the treatment, and the treatment can be stopped at any time should the treatment become intolerable.

Following the hands on portion of your treatment, the therapist may instruct and teach you corrective exercises (strengthening and/or stretching) to use after the treatment session.
